Reel People - Association of Anglers with disabilities
Maggotz Junior Anglers
Formed by Rob and Rick in 2002 after many requests from children at the Discovery Centre wanting to go fishing.
Several Reel People members have obtained their level 1 and 2 coaching certificates and regularly volunteer their time to taking the youngsters fishing.
The group takes both abled and disabled young people fishing during school holiday time from the Discovery Centre. A regular Tuesday evening club teaches the youngsters angling skills and educates them about wildlife and the environment. On several occasions the group has undertaken litter picks around local fishing venues. The group also takes members of the Dyspraxia group on some Saturdays during the summer.
The group covers course and sea fishing and also have taken a group crab fishing at Wells.
If you have any unwanted fishing tackle and would like to donate it to the group it would be very much appreciated.
During 2009 a project to get teenagers of the streets at night called "midnight" was established and we have been helping to organise fishing events and loaning tackle to that group.
